This position is located in the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS), Office of Satellite and Products Operations, Mission Operations Division, Operations Branch, located in Suitland, MD. This is an open continuous vacancy which will expire on April 9, 2015. The initial cut-off date will be April 23, 2014. Additional cut-off dates will be determined as needed.

This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. The ZT-3 is equivalent to the GS-09/10 grade level with promotion potential to the ZT-4 (GS-11/12).

This position is also announced under vacancy number NSDIS-OSPO-2014-0021 which is open to status candidates. You must apply separately to both announcements to be considered for both.

  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • This position is a non-bargaining position.
Conditions of Employment: Must be able to work rotating shifts in a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year environment.

  • Participate in formal training and assignments.
  • Execute schedules to provide environmental data from satellites.
  • Maintain technical records.
  • Monitor health and safety of multi-satellite constellations.
  • Provide technical support in a real-time environment.
  • Apply basic research.
