NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED:  This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the North Carolina Air National Guard.  Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.  Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with the requirements as a condition of employment.  Applicants must be current members of the North Carolina Air National Guard.

This position is located in the Office of the Wing Inspector General of Inspections. The purpose of the position is to inquire into and periodically report to the Wing Commander on the readiness, discipline, efficiency, economy, and morale of military and civilian personnel, equipment and associated management systems within the command. This position includes performance of the following functions: training and teaching, assistance, and inspections. Conducts general, special, or follow-up Inspector General Inspections to ascertain compliance and/or identify systematic problems and determine root causes. Develops solutions and recommends assignment of responsibility to correct problems for the Wing Commander and assists unit commanders in implementation of Command Inspections (CI) Initial, subsequent, and follow-up inspections, Staff Inspections (SI), Staff Assistance Visits (SAV), and Unit Effectiveness Inspections (UEI) and unit self-inspections. Conducts assistance, inquiries, or inspections into special functional area as directed by regulatory guidance of the Wing Commander to include: Internal and external inspections. Assesses unit training and provides confidential observations on unit performance to commanders and the Wing Commander. Assessment criteria includes knowledge, proficiency and understanding of the following training areas: unit Mission Essential Task List (METL), mission focus, long, short, and mid-term planning, basic operating systems, training meetings, training support publications, training schedules, mobilization and deployment plans, UEI, Reports and other matters. Conducts preliminary analysis to determine compliance and non-compliance. Establishes a case file to solve problems and grievances or refer action to the appropriate agency. Upon inspection completion, enters functional code and category into Inspector General database (IGEMS) for analysis and determination of trends, Prepare database statistics and other related reports for Commanders. Manages Commander Inspection Program (CCIP) dashboard for the WG/CC providing real-time data on Wing Programs and Inspections, and monitors discrepancies and suspense updates while producing inspection reports and tracks corrective action plans. Independently assesses Wing programs and capabilities. Validates and verifies Wing, Group, and Squadron self-assessment programs and results. Draft Inspection Reports and receives feedback from Wing Inspection Team (WIT) members after inspection completion, and validates and consolidates inputs and develops report. Coordinates report and provides report to CCIP Director for signature. Is a liaison between IG and Wing as well as outside organizations for inspection coordination. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:   Ability to understand legal provisions, regulations, and administrative procedures and to apply them to specific situations.  Ability to analyze narrative and numerical data, draw conclusions, and make decisions.  Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing.


Specialized Experience:  Must have at least 24 months experience, education, or training, involving principles, techniques and accepted practices of inspection, investigation, and compliance (i.e., the application of inspection and investigation techniques sufficient to perform assignments or preparation of technical reports on quality levels to identify specific problems).  Experience in the application and theory of inspection, investigation, enforcement, and compliance using applicable publications.  Experience in the preparation of technical reports on quality levels to identify specific problem areas and to recommend corrective action. 


Knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) listed below will be used in the selection process. KSAs are important to the entire selection process and should be addressed specifically and completely within the resume'. 


1. Knowledge of, and skill in applying inspection, and compliance principles, National Guard, Department of Air Force, and DOD regulations, policies, directives, procedures and requirements of various applications to ascertain compliance and/or identify systemic problems and provide training.

2. Knowledge of inspector general techniques in regards to Commanders Inspection Program, procedures and regulatory requirements and skills in applying them to a wide variety of situations.

3.  Ability to utilize of automated systems, create reports and analyze data to look for trends and root causes.

Quality of Experience: Level of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed.   The applicant's record of experience training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the Miscellaneous Administration and Program Positions.

A maximum of 12 months of the required experience may be substituted by successful completion of undergraduate study in an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester hours for 12 months of experience. The education must have been in fields directly related to the type of the work of the position (i.e., management, business administration, oral communications, accounting, economics, etc.)

Military Assignment:  Occupants of this position must maintain continuous military membership in the North Carolina Air National Guard (NCANG).  Assignment to a compatible Enlisted position in the NCANG is mandatory. (AFSC: 81000)


Security Clearance:  Employment is subject to attaining and maintaining a security clearance as required by the position (ANACI minimum).
