This position is being filled in the excepted service under the Pathways Program.  This is a planned and progressive education program that offers valuable work experience directly related to a student’s academic field of study.  After successfully completing your education and meeting agency work requirements, you may be converted to a term, career, or career conditional appointment. For more information on the Pathways Program, please visit:

Student Definition:  Students must currently be enrolled in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); or a professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; or an advanced degree program; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualification degree or certificate, and taking at least a half-time course load (as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled) throughout the duration of the appointment.  You must be in good academic standing (at least a 2.0 GPA or greater on a 4.0 scale for the most recent grading period and accumulative GPA); be at least 16 years of age; a U.S. citizen or U.S. National; and meet the qualification requirements of the position. You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program.

Position(s) will be filled under the BOR Pathways Internship Program.  This will be filled at the GS-04 level only, with no promotion potential, however the BOR Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent or term position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

Conversion potential is dependent on management's discretion based on various factors such as budget, organizational need, student performance, education, etc.  The target grade level for conversion and/or promotion is GS-12. Note: Non-competitive conversion is not guaranteed.  Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisory approval.  Additional vacancies may be filled from this vacancy announcement.  Graduated students are not eligible for this position.

- Under the direction of the Field Engineer or Resident Engineer, provides engineering support to the oversight team.

- Monitors and records the progress of construction projects on a timely and effective manner.

- Uses industry standard software in the documentation of projects and assist with development of drawing and technical specifications.

- Calculates material quantities and assists with preparation of cost estimates for less complex projects.

GS-4: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or Associate's degree leading to a Bachelor's degree. 

AND enrolled at least half-time in a degree granting program in an accredited institution.

The ideal candidate for this position is an individual pursuing undergraduate degree program in mechanical engineering at a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).  Candidates will be considered on the basis of the applicability of their education and experience.

-other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.

This position has a mandatory education requirement; you must furnish a copy of your transcript of college work completed (unofficial copy is acceptable). Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. Non-submission will result in you being rated not qualified for the position. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.)  Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.  Applicants can verify accreditation at the following website:  All education claimed by applicants will be verified by the appointing agency accordingly.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, applicants must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
