JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

**May work part time at the beginning and end of the recreation season. The recreation season typically lasts between April and September. Actual work periods vary by location.**

About the Position:

Lake Shelbyville is an 11,100 acre lake located in rural South Central Illinois approximately 60 miles southeast of Springfield. The project office is located in the city of Shelbyville, population approximately 5,000. The authorized project purposes are flood control, recreation, environmental stewardship and water supply. Lake Shelbyville is an island in a sea of corn and offers numerous outdoor recreation opportunities including camping, fishing, water sports, hiking, biking and large and small game.

Rend Lake was built as a joint project by the Illinois Department of Conservation, the Rend Lake Conservancy District, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This 18,000 acre reservoir was built to provide a dependable domestic water supply to a two-county area beginning in 1965. With marinas, boating, water skiing, camp sites, nature trails, golf, swimming, fishing, and hunting, Rend Lake is one of the premier vacation spots in Southern Illinois.

Wappapello Lake is nestled in the southeast region of the Missouri Ozark Mountains. With More than 44,000 acres of public lands and water, Wappapello Lake is a great area for hunting, fishing, swimming, boating, camping and picnicking. The authorized project purpose is flood risk management, however, natural resources and recreation management are also missions of the lake.

Clarence Cannon Dam and Mark Twain Lake has many recreational opportunities on 55,000-acres of land and water, spanning the Salt River Valley in Northeast Missouri. With 500 campsites, 2 marinas, 26 miles of multi-purpose trails, 11 boat launching ramps, 2 swimming beaches, hunting and fishing activities, as well as a new Visitor Center complex, there are plenty of recreational opportunities to enjoy and explore. Rich in history and home to Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) there are many local attractions to choose from. The lake is located in Ralls and Monroe Counties, 28 miles southwest of Hannibal, MO and 120 miles northwest of St. Louis.

  • Patrol project lands and water to ensure compliance with Federal regulations pertaining to parking, camping, noise level, sanitation, and safety.
  • Assist visitors by performing search and rescue missions, first aid, and safety programs.
  • Participate in natural resources management activities such as gathering data to be used in the development and updating of Operational Management Plans and/or Master Plans.
  • Develop and present various programs of interest to park visitors and conduct research of topics using sources such as records, books, and files.
  • Prepare inspection reports and note any deficiencies.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: work that involves technical, administrative, and/or scientific work in fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement or other park-related work.

I have at least a four year course of study above high school leading to a Bachelor's degree with 24 hours of related course work such as: natural resources management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
