About the Agency

This position is being filled in the excepted service under the Pathways Program.  This provides opportunities for high school, vocational and technical, undergraduate, graduate, and professional students to be exposed to the work of the Federal government.  For more information on the Pathways Program, please visit: http://www.opm.gov/HiringReform/Pathways/.

Applicants under this announcement will be considered for a temporary appointment.  Incumbent normally works 3-4 months (from as early as late April to as late as mid October) Dates are flexible depending on the school schedule of successful applicants.

The full performance of this position will remain at the grade selected.  Promotions will require further competition.


Completion of this Internship will not lead to permanent or term employment with the Bureau of Reclamation.

Reclamation is seeking a student looking for an opportunity to capitalize on his/her expertise as an Office Aid.  You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment. As a member of the summer office aid staff you will help enhance the image of the Grand Coulee Dam by words and actions.  The successful applicants for the position will significantly affect the success and achievement of the visitor program.

Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.

Student Definition:  Students must currently be enrolled in a degree program (highschool, college ect.) and taking at least a half-time course load (as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled).  You must be in good academic standing (at least a 2.0 GPA or greater on a 4.0 scale for the most recent grading period and accumulative GPA); be at least 16 years of age; a U.S. citizen or U.S. National; and meet the qualification requirements of the position. You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program.

If selection is made below the full performance level, duties assigned shall be appropriate to the grade level of the incumbent.

Performs a variety of clerical and related office duties.  Assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following kinds of support functions:

Answering the telephone, taking messages and routing calls to appropriate persons

Filing of correspondence, catalogs, reports, etc.

Delivering of mail.

Typing correspondence, statistical data, forms, labels, etc.

Checking and verifying lists, tables, charts, etc.

Performing duplicating services.

Uses wordprocessing systems and software, types indraft and in final form a variety of material, including correspondence, technical memoranda, and/or multicolumnar tabulations and forms such as reports.  Inserts, deletes or moves text from one place to another; stores' retrieves and prints a variety of standardized documents using prerecorded formats, form letters, or mailing lists.  Edits fork for grammatical correctness and format and proofreads finished material for spelling errors, capitalization and punctuation.

The selected student will be appointed at either the GS-01 or GS-02 federal pay grade level, which is determined by meeting the following qualification requirements:

For the GS-01 level, no experience required.

For the GS-02 level, 3 months general experience or High school graduation or equivalent.  General experience is defined as: Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position.

Graduated students are not eligible for this position.


Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, applicants must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
