These positions are being filled under Expedited Hiring Authority (EHA) for Defense Acquisition Workforce Positions and Health Care Occupations. The Secretary of the Air Force has delegated authority by the Office Of the Secretary of Defense to directly appoint individuals to select defense acquisition workforce positions, or “EHA Acquisition”,  pursuant to the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) and 2) certain health care occupations, or “EHA Medical”.  Positions are located Air Force-Wide. ·         Accurately gathers and complies data statistical reports for both internal and external uses, preparing, and disseminating reports within established timeframes. Proactively diagnoses opportunities and threats that impact mission notifying proper authorities, and taking responsible action. Actively participates in staff/flight and effectively promotes ideas, concerns, and issues that impact section operation/visibility.

 

 

·         Plans and directs the activities of a records section, including clinical records coding and completion transcription, and the Tumor Registry.

 

 

·         Provides expertise in technical and administrative areas of record management, quality assurance and advisor for various committees, functions and professional meetings.

 

 

·         Provides education, training, and consultation of current practice outpatient clinical coding techniques to medical professionals, health service managers, and third party billers.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-07: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must have been at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience: Knowledge of the current version of various statistical classification of diseases, operations, training, and experience in coding systems such as International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems (HCPCS).

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-09: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must have been at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience: knowledge and understanding of recognized reference standards, medical and legal requirements, and regulatory and accrediting agency requirements to perform medical records analysis and evaluate the adequacy of a medical records program. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and a practical knowledge of medical procedures and diagnosis.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-10: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must have been at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. . Examples of specialized experience: Knowledge and understanding of recognized reference standards, medical and legal requirements, and regulatory and accrediting agency requirements to perform medical records analysis and evaluate the adequacy of a medical records program; knowledge of automated medical records systems, requirements of the Privacy and Freedom of Information Acts; Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and a practical knowledge of medical procedures and diagnosis..

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must have been at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Specialized experience: Knowledge and understanding of recognized reference standards, medical and legal requirements, and regulatory and accrediting agency requirements to perform medical records analysis and evaluate the adequacy of a medical records program; Knowledge of automated medical records systems, requirements of the Privacy and Freedom of information Acts; Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and a practical knowledge of medical procedures and diagnosis; Knowledge of statistics to assess patient workload and establish quality controls thorough knowledge of agency and governmental policies, procedures, applicable Federal statutes and legislation governing medical records programs.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-12: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must have been at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Specialized experience: Knowledge of medical and legal requirements, and regulatory and accrediting agency requirements to perform medical records analysis and evaluate the adequacy of a medical records program. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and a practical knowledge of medical procedures and diagnosis; knowledge of Federal statutes and legislation governing medical records programs and regulatory, licensing, and accrediting agency requirements, and medico-legal responsibilities.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-13: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must have been at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Specialized experience: Mastery of medical records administration to identify, define, and resolve managerial, administrative, and medical records problems associated with unique, undeveloped, or controversial aspects of medical records management. Comprehensive knowledge of a range of medical records laws, policies, regulations, and precedents applicable to the administration of a medical records program for an agency.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-14: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must have been at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Specialized experience: Mastery level of understanding of standard MHS and VA corporate data sources both direct and purchased care; Medical Expense and Personnel System (MEPRS), Standard Inpatient Data Repository (SIDR), Standard Ambulatory Data Repository (SADR), Comprehensive Ambulatory and Professional Services Record (CAPER) and Air Force Medical Service clinical, business operations, and reimbursement programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgical and medical procedures sufficient to code for accurate workload capture and optimum billing.

2. Knowledge of accepted medical abbreviations and their meanings and interpretations.

3. Knowledge of procedural and diagnostic civilian coding best practices. A thorough understanding of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding policies and techniques.

4. Knowledge of Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) coding and billing regulatory guidelines and policies.

 

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week
