The Pathways Internship Program serves as one of the agency's succession planning programs intended to assist in the need for leadership continuity by employing outstanding students that are enrolled in a major that leads to a bachelor's degree or higher in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (S.T.E.M.). The Program provides students, in accredited colleges and universities, with paid opportunities to explore federal careers while completing their education. We are looking for highly motivated, student interns to help the FAA succeed in its Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) efforts. NextGen uses 21st Century technologies to meet future demands, improve safety, and protect the environment.

If you are selected for this position at the FV-1599-C, you will be working in a team setting with other professionals from various disciplines such as computer science, engineering, and mathematics (statistics), etc. The ideal candidates will possess analytical and communication skills sufficient to select and modify appropriate methods of operation, analyze and interpret results, and prepare reports. Successful candidates selected for these positions will also engage in technical support projects including, but not limited to, research, technology, development, engineering studies, and risk analysis. You will be responsible for activities that are required to support the development of standards and policies necessary to maintain the elements of the FAA's NextGen Portfolio. In addition, you will be required to demonstrate the ability to prepare reports and briefings to communicate information to various audiences.

In addition to the above responsibilities, if you are selected at the FV-1599-D level, you will be responsible for supporting the development and coordination of new concepts of operation. You will be required to identify, retrieve, analyze and organize data required to support decision making at higher levels.

APPOINTMENT - If selected, your appointment may not exceed a total of 120 days after graduation.

AGREEMENT: All participants must sign a written Pathways Internship Agreement with the FAA that clearly identifies expectations of the appointment such as duties, length of appointment, work schedule, training, mentorship, etc.

CONVERSION: Although it is not guaranteed, an intern may be converted from the Internship program to a permanent excepted service position without further competition after successful completion of the educational program (awarding of degree), completion of a minimum of 640 hours of career- related work, required training, mentorship, and other requirements in accordance with the intern's participant agreement.*

TERMINATION: Participation in this program may be terminated at any time.

To qualify for this position, you must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in a program leading to a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science; OR pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher which includes 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. To be acceptable, at least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

In addition, to qualify at the FV-C pay band, you must show completion of two academic years of post-high school study; OR an associate's degree.

In addition, to qualify at the FV-D pay band, you must show completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree; OR Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.

Qualifications must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
