The incumbent of this position serves as Deputy Program Manager, responsible for developing strategies for planning and major (Level I and II) and non-major (Level III) programs; ensuring the acquisition program baselines are properly executed within approved budget, cost, schedule and performance ranges, and report adverse trends when observed. The incumbent supports the Aviation, Surface; or Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) domains.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Developing maintaining and complying with all program related plans and documentation ensuring compliance
  • Translating management goals and objectives into effective operations and establishing control systems and progress reporting that monitor production goals or program priorities
  • Directing all planning, programming and budgeting efforts for the acquisition program
  • Evaluating overall staffing needs and future needs in conjunction with the Program Executive Office (PEO)
  • Supervising employees performing work at the GS-15/14 and/or O-6/5 level
  • Furthering equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals by taking steps to assure accomplishment of affirmative action objectives
  • Planning, establishing and directing a quality improvement program which improves business process and eliminates redundancy
  • Preparing presentation and written argument for key decision points

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: applying and implementing administrative laws, policies, regulations, and precedents for an acquisition program; analyzing program issues and proposing solutions for a more effective and efficient program operation; advising senior staff on acquisition management and support issues and/or processes; leading acquisition management studies to improve long range plans and goals; and preparing/contributing to technical reports and/or other documents that are presented to high level audiences on acquisition program planning and evaluations.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
