This is a key position within the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This position is located within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of the Chief financial Officer (OCFO), Office of Asset and Facilities Management (OAFM), Administrative Service Branch (ASB). The primary purpose of this position is the processing of incoming or outgoing mail, preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents, and office automation support to management, staff, and customers within ICE Headquarters Program Organizations. Specifically, you will:

  • Open, read, review, sort and route a wide variety of correspondence and mail;
  • Check all incoming correspondence and service requests against control logs and records;
  • Prepare digests of condenses subject matter to enable recipients to assign action;
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail and packages to include operating a mail postage metering machine to calculate and affix the correct amount of postage in accordance with U.S. Postal Service requirements;
  • Provide administrative assistance and staff support; and
  • Operate an envelope and package X-Ray screening machine to ensure the safety of building occupants, and the handling of any questionable mail during the security screening process.

You must meet one of the following to qualify at the GS-05 grade level:

Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level maintaining office files and records; referring office calls and visitors to appropriate sources; receiving and distributing mail; processing outgoing mail; and preparing simple documents.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree or a full 4-year course of study, above the high school level, in any field leading to a Bachelor’s degree. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours).

Combining Education and Experience: Appropriate combinations of successfully completed post-high school education beyond the second year (i.e., education in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and experience as described above that totals at least one year.

Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Proof of Education: If basing your qualifications on education, you must submit transcripts or list of college courses, with credit hours, major(s) and grade point average or class ranking. (Prior to appointment, an official college transcript will be required.) This education must be from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Based on your responses, you will be placed in one of the following categories:

  1. Best Qualified: Applicants possessing a background that demonstrates a superior level of all evaluation criteria.
  2. Well Qualified:  Applicants possessing a background that demonstrates a satisfactory level of the evaluation criteria.
  3. Qualified:  Applicants possessing the basic qualifications, with general knowledge, skills, and abilities.
