The GEC Assistant Nurse Manager demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care. She/he acts to continually improve the quality of care and ensure the healthcare environment is safe for patients, families, visitors and employees. The Assistant Nurse Manger will lead or participate in improvement activities by collaborating with both clinical and administrative disciplines.  He/she adheres to established policies and procedures, standards of care and standards of practice.  The position is in the GEC Care Line and will be accountable is responsible to the CLC Nurse Managers, and Associate Chief Nurse for GEC.  The GEC Assistant Nurse Manager is accountable for managing nursing care delivery and staff development within the clinical units on non-administrative tours.

 

The GEC Assistant Nurse Manager will demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and leadership in improving patient care.  He/she will work effectively with others, initiate and lead groups of patients and/or personnel; assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the delivery of patient care based on VHA and other applicable standards of practice and care.  She/ he will supervise, guide and counsel nursing personnel effectively using sound judgment and data whenever possible to make decisions. Reports and correspondence will be timely and accurate. Problems will be resolved by conducting reviews or reviewing existing data, analyzing the data and working with front line staff to recommend effective resolution to problems that impede the delivery of nursing care.  The GEC Assistant Nurse Manager will be required to be BLS certified within 90 days of accepting the position and will respond to emergencies including behavioral, cardiac and fire. In general the GEC Assistant Nurse Manager will oversee the delivery of patient care on non-administrative tours for all three Community Living Center ensuring that it is safe and effective. He/She will educate colleagues and or students whenever a need is identified, and serves as a resource/mentor. He/She will demonstrate leadership by being knowledgeable about VA Performance requirements and utilizing appropriate resources to assist nursing staff improve care delivery and quality.

 

The GEC Assistant Nurse Manager will provide coverage for the CLC unit Nurse Manager on their assigned unit in his/her absence or when directed to do so. Incumbent is responsible in developing staffing schedules for their assigned unit to ensure  24 hour safe patient coverage; is available for staff needs/consultation 24 hour. 

These positions are located within Geriatrics and Extended Care Line Community Living Centers, at the VA Medical Center, Bath, New York. 

 

The GEC Assistant Nurse Manager will be a working supervisor providing some clinical duties as assigned.   

 

A Recruitment Incentive/Relocation Incentive of $7,500 has been authorized for highly qualified candidates.  

 

APPLICANT SELECTED FOR THIS POSITION WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR AN AWARD UP TO THE MAXIMUM LIMITATION ($48,000) UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF HTE EDUCATION DEBT REDUCTION PROGRAM (EDRP), SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF FUNDING. 

 

WORK SCHEDULE:  Various shifts - to be discussed during interview; possible days w/everyother weekend off & HOLIDAYS OFF.

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

    ·        U.S. citizenship.

    ·        Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

    ·        Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Education/Experience Requirements:

·        Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

·        Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

·        Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience

 

BSN preferred with approximately 2 to 3 years successful nursing practice.

Associated Degree with 2-3 years of supervisory or managerial experience.

 

Credentialing & Privileging: Any registered, and certified health care providers appointed to a Veterans Health Administration Medical Center must enter their employment history, education history and all licensure/certification/registration information through the internet-based credentialing system (VetPro). VetPro ensures the consistency of the credentialing process for all employees and provides a reliable electronic data bank of health care provider credentials. This system is used nationwide by all VHA healthcare facilities. Employment commencement dates will be contingent upon the completion and approval of the VetPro credentialing/verification process.
