JOB SUMMARY:

A career with the Forest Service will challenge you to manage and care for more than 193 million acres of our nation's most magnificent lands, conduct research through a network of forest and range experiment stations and the Forest Products Laboratory, and provide assistance to State and private forestry agencies.

These positions have a positive education requirement; therefore, a legible copy of your official college transcripts is required.  Applicants who fail to submit their transcripts with their application will not be given credit for their education.

This position is being advertised as a Career Ladder. Target Grade is a GS-09. Position may be filled as career ladder or could be filled at full performance level. 

These are interdisciplinary positions and may be filled in any of the job series/position titles listed. In addition to the specialized experience requirements, applicants must submit proof that they meet the educational requirements for at least one of the series described in the announcement. • Participates in the development, administration and execution of annual work plans for recreation resources in compliance with agency guidelines and direction.

• Recommends potential sites or areas for additional recreation use and planned development with suggested priorities for development.

• Develops plans and monitors new construction of recreation trails, parking areas, trailhead facilities, campgrounds, picnic areas, parking areas, and access roads in consultation with other resource personnel.

• Compiles NEPA documents and implementing approved projects.

• Develop contract language for assigned projects and administering concession and recreation special use permits

GS-0101 Social Science: You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for all positions at the GS-5 grade level and above.

Bachelor's Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR  Combination of education and experience -- that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR  Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

GS-0401 Biological Science: You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for all positions at the GS-5 grade level and above.

Bachelor's Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR  Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the basic requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position

GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; one full year of graduate level education; an appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience; or Superior Academic Achievement (go to this site determine if you are eligible: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Examples of specialized experience are: Worked alongside of both journey level and senior members in order to assist with evaluating recreation needs in planning, organizing, advising on, and administering recreation activities and programs which promote the physical, creative, social, and environmental development of participants; performs conventional natural resource projects of moderate difficulty; assists with the planning of construction recreation trails, parking areas, trailhead facilities, and new access roads in consultation with engineering personnel; compiles material and supply estimates for recreation facilities, maintenance, and operations.

GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Examples of specialized experience are: Worked alongside of senior members to develop potential recreational sites or areas for additional recreation use and planned development; participated in the drafting of annual work action plans for carrying out recreation management decisions; interacted with partnership groups to foster long term relationships that provide project support; assisted with other resource management activities by analyzing the impact of those sources on the recreation program; and assessed in the documentation of environmental impacts on social, economic, environmental, and other resources.
