The National Defense University (NDU) is the premier naitonal security institution focused on advanced joint education, leader of development and scholarship.

Under the direction and leadership of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the oversight of the Director for Joint Force Development, Joint Staff (J-7), NDU offers a collegial and collaborative academic environment to support the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world. Students are selected for their leadership potential and attend classes at Fort McNair in Washington DC; the Joint forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA; and at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, NC. A variety of on-line courses are offered as well. At NDU, students are encouraged and taught to think creatively, critically, and imaginatively in order to anticipate and overcome future challenges to national security. The curriculum combines information technology and classroom experience with many other aspects such as international travel and exposure; interaction with industry, members of the inter-agency community, and international allies and partners; and participation, research and professional exchanges with local and national consortia of national security academic institutions.

Serves as principal advisor to the NDU Director of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment on a wide variety of projects that develop and support institutional research, planning and assessment functions across the University.


Performs the development and production of statistical and analytical reports in a wide variety of platforms.  Applying a thorough knowledge of empirical research, principles and techniques and skill in their application.


Performs analysis, interpretation and evaluation of data from a variety of sources for presentation to varying audiences.  Directly participates in the analysis, interpretation, evaluation, reporting and dissemination of institutional data to internal and external constituencies to support strategic planning, student enrollment and other University initiatives.


Performs the application and implementation of University-adopted institutional research and effectiveness practices. 

Utilizes sound institutional research and effectiveness methods to benchmark NDU assessment and evaluation processes external standards and practices.


Performs archival research and reporting in the areas of institutional research and effectiveness.


Performs verification assistance for accuracy and internal consistency of reports required for internal and external entities including accreditation, Department of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Required qualifications:


A bachelor's degree in a social science or a social science related field.

A minimum of three years experience in analysis, interpretation and evaluation of data from a variety of sources applying research principles, methodologies, techniques and skills.

A minimum of two years experience collecting, archiving and preserving artifacts and evidence in the areas of institutional research, effectiveness and for the accreditation process.

A minimum of two years experience understanding and applying current issues/trends in higher education and accreditation. 

Ability to utilize software and tools to produce word documents, spreadsheets, presentations and databases.


Desired Qualifications:


A master's degree in social science or a social science related field, or enrollment in a master's program.

Experience working in academic initiatives in the government, DOD, or a University.

Experience utilizing software for survey development, delivery, analysis and reporting and utilizing tools for interface and integration of multiple data platforms.






Occasional travel may be required.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
