Candidates must meet the educational requirements for an Economist; additionally, candidates using experience and education to qualify at the GS-07 level must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized Experience for the GS-07 is defined as: experience, either through education or employment, collecting and analyzing technical information, including the formulation of recommendations.
Education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience. Education which may be substituted to meet the requirements for the GS-7 is one full year of graduate level education or Superior Academic Achievement. Superior Academic Achievement is based on class standing, grade-point average or membership in a scholastic national honor society.
Graduate Education is education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply. Graduates that have completed education requirements for a qualifying program on or after December 27, 2010 and are no longer within the two year time frame.
