    This position is located in the Office of the CIO. The Deskside Support position provides IT customer support to all staff members at Peace Corps HQ. This includes managing and implementing moves, adds and changes to staff workstations; troubleshooting hardware and software problems for staff PCs (desktops and laptops), peripherals, printers, and scanners; testing and deploying non-standard software and hardware; and participating in other projects as assigned as appropriate within this position. Deskside Support personnel must have excellent customer service skills and must be able to work both independently and as part of a small team.
    Plans and delivers customer support services, including installations, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and/or training, in response to customer requirements.

    Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and software to ensure the availability and functionality of the systems. Recovers data in the event of hardware or software failure.

    Plans, designs, and develops test methods, procedures, techniques, and requirements for computer systems. Reviews, analyzes, evaluates, and improves hardware, software, systems, and/or equipment testing methods, concepts, techniques, and operations. Participates in the test and evaluation of contractors' equipment, components, systems, or products. Develops new technologies, such as computer simulations, for innovative testing of design concepts, applications, and systems. Develops and implements test technologies to address the design, development, verification, and operation needs of software, systems or hardware.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Performed information technology (IT)-related work in a thorough manner, with attention to detail and concern for all areas involved.

    Fulfilled internal and external information technology (IT) client and customer needs, providing information, assistance, and/or training, resolving problems; explaining system and product functionality; and satisfying expectations.

    Identified problems and causation factors and generated solutions and/or offered recommendations for a variety of confirmed information technology (IT) problems.

    MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Grade 5:

    Qualifying experience for FP-05 requires IT-related experience that demonstrates each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail; Customer Service; Oral Communication; and Problem Solving; AND one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the FP-07 or GS-7 level. Specialized experience is experience that is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience must be IT-related and may be paid or unpaid experience.

    Example of specialized experience for positions at the FP-05 level, typically gained in the IT field or through performance of work where the primary concern is IT, includes experience that demonstrates knowledge of IT requirements and techniques in carrying out project assignments consisting of several related tasks, such as typically is the case in development of minor modifications to parts of a system on the basis of detailed specifications provided. Work involves analysis of the interrelationships of pertinent components of the system; planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment; and personal responsibility for at least a segment of the overall project.

    SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree, at an accredited/pre-accredited institution that demonstrates the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Education must have included major study in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or course work in one or more of the identified fields that required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

    Grade 4:

    Qualifying experience for FP-04 requires IT-related experience that demonstrates each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail; Customer Service; Oral Communication; and Problem Solving; AND one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the FP-05 or GS-9 level. Specialized experience is experience that is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience must be IT-related and may be paid or unpaid experience.

    Example of specialized experience for positions at the FP-04 level, typically gained in the IT field or through performance of work where the primary concern is IT, includes experience that demonstrates accomplishment of IT project assignments that required a range of knowledge of IT requirements and techniques. Accomplishments normally involve the following, or the equivalent:

    - knowledge of the customary approaches, techniques, and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization;

    -planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; and

    -adaptation of guidelines or precedents to the needs of the assignment.

    SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, at an accredited/pre-accredited institution, that demonstrates the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Education must have included major study in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or course work in one or more of the identified fields that required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

    This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps are normally for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires.
