The Administrative Assistant serves as the primary advisor to the District Manager on administrative matters and serves as office expert in day-to-day administrative managemnt services essential for the efficient operation of the office.

 

This position is located in the Social Security Administration, Field Office, 2 Penn Ctr. STE 2000A, Field Office, 1500 JFK Blvd 20th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19134. 
NOTE: This position is being filled on a full-time, permanent basis. Additional selections may be made within six months from the closing date of this announcement.

This is a career-ladder position leading to the GS-8 grade level.

The Administrative Assistant serves as the District Manager's confidential assistant for labor relations and personnel matters as well as aspects of budget execution, personnel administration, procurement and supply, contract administrtion, travel, payroll services, reports management, facility management, etc. Provides administrative support for the staff and routinely trains other employees and subordinate office employees in administrative and other assigned (e.g. LAN) systems. Provides technical, operational or systems administration support to the office.

For GS-6:  Requires 52 weeks of Specialized Experience Equivalent to the GS-05 level.

This experience includes administrative or clerical experience which is in or directly related to the line of work which provides the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.  Such experience must have been gained in one or more of the following areas of: labor relations, personnel administration, budget, procurement and supply contract administration, travel, payroll services, reports management, facilities management, knowledge of systems hardware, software and program capabilities. 

Note: Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience (e.g., if you work 20 hours per week for a 12-month period), you will be credited with 6 months of experience.


 

 

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your application will be evaluated under the Category Rating method, based on your responses to the occupational questions in this document, which is designed to capture the desired competencies for this position. 1) Qualified Category - Candidates who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements.

2) Well Qualified Category - Candidates who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and demonstrate a satisfactory level of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.  

3) Best Qualified Category - Candidates who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and demonstrate a high level of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

The Category Rating Method does not add veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three," but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category. Candidates eligible for veterans' preference will be placed ahead of other candidates in the appropriate category for which they have been rated.  Additionally, preference eligibles who have a compensable service-connected disability of at least 10 percent and who meet the minimum qualification Requirements will automatically be placed in the Best Qualified Category.
