The Agricultural Research Service is seeking qualified students to participate in the 2014 Pathways Internship Program. These temporary appointments are expected to begin in May and extend beyond the summer months. Internships are open to individuals who have been accepted for enrollment or who are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) from a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis.
Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid.

Appointments may be extended in accordance with Pathways Program guidelines.
Interns who are assigned to a GS-1399, Student Trainee (Physical Science) position perform standardized routines in support of research projects in a laboratory or field setting. Typical, but not all-inclusive duties require a general knowledge of basic physical science and are illustrated by performance of any combination of the following:
Preparing routine media and solutions by weighing and measuring constituents according to established methods
Using common laboratory equipment and apparatus to prepare various types of materials for use by others
Making simple mixtures of stock solutions; receiving, storing, transferring, and replenishing laboratory supplies, solvents and chemicals; maintaining the immediate work area and laboratory equipment in a clean and orderly manner
Assisting in sample collection and preparing sample labels
Keeping detailed records of experimental data and tabulating data using personal computers and software packages
