The Agricultural Research Service is seeking qualified students to participate in the 2014 Summer Pathways Internship Program.  These temporary appointments are expected to begin in May and extend beyond the summer months.  Internships are open to individuals who have been accepted for enrollment or who are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) from a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis.


Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid.

Interns who are assigned to a GS-0399, Student Trainee (Clerical and Office Support) position assist professional and technical staff by performing miscellaneous clerical duties in support of the work of the office. Typical, but not all-inclusive duties are illustrated by performance of any combination of the following:
• Opening and distributing mail; preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents
• Maintaining office records; filing material; locating and compiling data or information from files
• Answering and referring telephone calls
• Typing a variety of material including draft reports, memoranda and correspondence using a personal computer and related word processing software

Eligibility Requirements

All applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student on at least a half-time schedule at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program. You will be required to provide documentation to support your eligibility for the program. See the How to Apply section for details.

Qualification Requirements
In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements, applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below in order to qualify.

GS-3: Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study

You must submit a copy of your academic transcripts OR a list of college courses with credit hours, dates completed, and grade point average or class ranking to verify education when applying for this position.  If this information is not provided, your education may not be appropriately evaluated and you may lose consideration for this position.  If you are selected for this position, you will have to provide an official copy of your transcripts prior to entering on duty.

Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional/accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment.  It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.  Please visit the Office of Personnel Management's website for additional information on this topic

Interns may be non-competitively converted to term or permanent appointments in the competitive service. To be eligible for conversion, an Intern must:

·    be a U.S. citizen;

·    have completed the required number of hours of work experience (generally, at least 640 hours) while enrolled as a full-time or half-time degree-seeking student;

·    have completed educational requirements from a qualifying institution;

·    have received a favorable recommendation by an official of the agency; and

·    Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which the Intern will be converted.
