Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students currently enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work and get paid while exploring federal careers through a job with the Department of Army.

You will serve as a Pathways Student Trainee in the Science and Technology management Team with USSOUTHCOM receiving on-the-job training and work assignments consisting of a variety of administrative and clerical duties in support of the organization's office staff and USSOUTHCOM mission. You will provide logistical support to project managers for conducting meetings, conferences and foreign travel associated with demonstration events. You will utilize different automation systems and prepare/create reports, staff papers, and memorandums with different styles of established presentations. You will research background data, verify information, rewrite/reorganize text in a clear and concise manner to ensure the information is conveyed clearly.

General Experience: To qualify applicants must possess one year of General experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-03).  General experience is defined as:  Utilizing a computer and applying knowledge of general automation software, practices, procedures to research, produce information papers, reports, and maintain office files.
OR

Education Substitution: Successfully completed at least two (2) full years ofeducation above the high school level from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of class room instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

OR

Education and Experience Combination:

Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below. To determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the two years of general experience required atthe GS-4 level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for GS-04. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS 4(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).  

AND

In addition to experience/education/combination described above:

Applicants must possess proof of meeting the definition of a current student, enrollment or acceptance for enrollment to an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on a full or half time basis. Current enrollment or acceptance for enrollment of at least a half time academic course load in an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university or graduate or professional school.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
• Knowledge of Administrative, Practices, and Procedures
• Knowledge of Science and Technology
• Skill in Communication


Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
