About the Agency

These positions are being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore federal careers while still in school.


In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program:
--you must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the school (certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum); and
--enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as a high school or state-approved home school; or accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school): or a post-secondary home school curriculum.
--students currently enrolled must be in good academic standing maintaining a 2.0 grade point average on a cumulative basis.
These are temporary internship not-to-exceed opportunities to complete project work that's temporary in nature.

Reclamation is seeking an entry level intern looking for an opportunity to capitalize on his/her expertise as an engineering technician. Would you enjoy ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Government facilities? Responsibilities include providing technical support to engineers.

NOTE: Intern NTE appointees are not eligible for promotions.  Please apply to both grade levels if you wish to be considered for the GS-03 and the GS-04.

This position is designed to provide an opportunity and environment for the incumbent to develop skills and abilities to progressively assume work of a more complex nature. At the full performance level, the incumbent will be:
-preparing summaries, criteria, and draft reports related to field test or research efforts
-preparing graphs, curves, and tables to analyze and present data
-performing basic computer programming and database entry/management
-preparing correspondence
-participating in field trips to inspect facilities and to participate in testing and data gathering.

GS-3: l year of post secondary study that included at least 6 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics; OR 6 months of general experience.

GS-4: 2 years of post secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3 (or equivalent); OR 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience.

General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying, construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
