PATHWAY PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Allows students to be exposed to the work of the Government through Federal internships while pursuing their degree. This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides manager's a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals. This position is part of the Pathways Internship Program and is located at the Central Office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The incumbent position performs technical supply support work to facilitate the effectiveness of supply work operations in the organization. The incumbent will assist in the orderly running of the warehouse by performing duties concerned with receipt of a wide variety of supplies and specialized items requiring special handling. The incumbent ensures that received items are properly stored and in compliance with regulations. He/she revises quantities ordered based on numbers on hand. The incumbent recommends substitution when supply items are not available. The incumbent maintains an accurate accounting and reporting system for non-expendable property. The incumbent performs supply transactions and provides customers service for urgent critical shortage items and other items requiring special handling. The incumbent has inventory management responsibility for a relatively small number of items which are decentralized and controlled locally.

Applicants must be current students pursuing a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution.
GS-03: Completion of 1 academic year of post-high school study.

Special Conditions of Employment Section:
Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a pre-employment and panel interview, urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to, and must satisfactorily pass all screening requirements in relation to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit check.
This position has not been identified as test designated. Incumbents will not be subject to urinalysis testing under the BOP Drug Free Workplace Plan.
The selectee for this position will be serving in an excepted appointment of one year or less and will not be eligible for a non-competitive conversion appointment into the competitive service.
Student Trainee work schedule may vary from minimum requirement of 12 hours per week up to 40 hours depending on school schedule and the needs of agency.
Appointments are not to exceed the end of the fiscal year, however, they may be extended on a yearly basis.
