The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164.  This position may be used for the purpose of filling multiple positions throughout the school year.  This position is a Lead Monitor with the Department of Defense Domestic and Dependent Elementary School, (DDESS), Dahlgren, VA. It is an Excepted Service, part-time, seasonal, position typically working 1-2 hours a day.  The Lead Monitor sets the schedule for monitors who perform simple and repetitive lunchroom monitoring duties, recess monitoring duties, bus monitoring duties. While performing or overseeing the activities of Monitors, the safety and welfare of students is the primary concern. The lead monitor identifies and reports known or suspected problems, issues, or concerns to the appropriate staff, faculty member, or other official (e.g., military police) in accordance with established policies and procedures.

This a temporary appointment not to exceed 1 year. You must reside in the Dahlgren, VA communting area to be considered for this position.

Develops and maintains shift schedules, assigns work and instructs employees in the performance of their tasks; gives simple on-the job training in accordance with applicable local guidance; provides input to employee performance appraisals; resolves informal complaints; and keeps supervisor informed of disciplinary problems. Assembles students at designated points and monitors dismissal and movement from lunchroom area and recess area. Monitors orderly lunchroom activities. Monitors lunchroom cleanup and assists students to place paper and uneaten food into appropriate disposal receptacles. At the end of the lunch period, assembles students at designated lineup areas for movement back to the classrooms. Ensures that tables and lunchroom area is clean. Monitors a designated recess area. Assures safe recess activities by demonstrating safe play practices and use of playground equipment. Enforces safety rules and maintains order and safety to prevent unsafe/dangerous practices. Prevents altercations between students. Contacts parents on problems or concerns relating to lunchroom and recess behavior.

Applicants must possess 1) 6 months general experience, or 2) 1 year of education above the high school level .

General Experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

 

Post-high school level education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.


Must meet OPM minimum qualification standards to be considered for this position.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your application will initially be reviewed to determine whether you meet the minimum eligibility and qualifications requirements.  If you are qualified, you will then receive a rating based on the degree to which your background matches the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position listed.  If, after reviewing your resume and supporting documentation, a determination is made that you inflated your qualifications and/or experience, your score may be adjusted to more accurately reflect your abilities or you may be found ineligibile/not qualified.  Your application will be placed in one of three categories:  Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified.  Within these categories, applicants for Veterans Preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans.
