In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience required: This position requires one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes applying scientific fundamentals to (Geographical Information Systems) GIS projects using Esri's ArcGIS suite of software. This experience would typically include technical proficiency in GIS, experience with relational databases as it relates to geodatabases, and application development. Evaluating and implementing customer business requirements and developing GIS workflows for internal and external customers.
Applicants must meet the basic qualifications for one of the series listed below. To qualify, applicants must meet at least one of the following Basic Entry Requirements and provide supporting documentation for verification:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR ARCHITECT
A. I have completed a 4-year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
B. I have combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings.
BASIC QUALIFICATION FOR GEOGRAPHER
A. I have a degree in: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
B. I have a combination of education and experience and have attended and passed courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
BASIC QUALIFICATION FOR PHYSICAL SCIENTIST
A. I have a degree from an accredited college or university with a major in physical science, engineering, or mathematics which included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. (You must provide transcripts to support educational claims).
B. I have a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional. (You must provide transcripts to support educational claims).
BASIC QUALIFICATION FOR CIVIL ENGINEER:
A. I have a Bachelor's degree in Professional Engineering. The curriculum was from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
B. I have a combination of education and experience (college-level education, training, and/or technical experience) that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. My education and experience is supplemented by one of the following: 1) I am currently registered as a professional engineer by a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico; 2) I have successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico; 3) I have successfully completed at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in option B described above; OR 4) I have successfully completed the curriculum leading to a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) and I have had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities)in the following areas:
Knowledge of geospatial, engineering, and water resources
Knowledge of internal algorithms and skill in computations and techniques employed in GIS tools
Ability to communicate orally
Ability to organize the development and system design of computer software
