Duties and Responsibilities:

The Vet Center Psychologist is responsible providing professional clinical services
to eligible veterans and family members under the direct
administrative supervision of the Team Leader and is expected provide clinical
services under the accepted APA guidelines for Psychologists. The work is
comprised of providing clinical services consistent with accepted standards of
ethical and professional mental health treatment. The psychologist also provides
professional family therapy, crisis intervention, outreach and community
education services as needed.

Provides at least 50% direct service time as a Psychologist.
Provides direct service to Vet Center clients. Will
establish and maintain therapeutic relationships and exercise professional
judgment in the treatment of Vet Center clients and their families.
The professional Psychologist will be able to function with a minimum of clinical
oversight and is expected to make autonomous decisions regarding clinical
issues. The psychologist is responsible for providing all psychological services to
clients presenting with complex clinical problems and family members of clients.
The psychologist has full professional responsibility for the psychological
treatment of the complex clinical cases.
Responsible for the assessment and treatment of complex
cases, to include veteran's families and PTSD as it relates to family issues. The
Psychologist is expected to consult with fellow team members and other mental
health professionals on a regular basis regarding individual mental health cases.
The psychologist will provide clinical supervision to other clinicians on the team,
as necessary, if instructed by Team Leader or RMO.

 

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

    • Citizen of the United States.
    • English Language Proficiency (written and spoken).
    • A doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
    • Successful completion of a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. Exceptions: (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.

 

GRADE DETERMINATIONS: Your salary and grade will be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB).  The PSB is a peer review process.  The PSB will review your individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishments.

 

GS-11:
Experience:
None beyond the basic requirements.

GS-12:
Experience:
In addition to the basic requirements at the GS-11 level, at least 1 year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level.


GS-13:
Licensure:
Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
AND
Experience:
In addition to the experience requirements at the GS-12 level, at least one additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level. In addition the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
1.Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.
2.Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
3.Knowledge of clinical research literature.
