JOB SUMMARY:

US Army Veterinary Services operates as a subsidiary of Public Health Command. Their mission is to provide military veterinary services in support of United States Army Medical Command and Department of Defense missions. The civilian function of the Veterinary Services is a supplemental mission which exists to assist soldiers and their families in the field of animal health and care.

This is a standing register used to fill positions at Veterinary Services locations as vacancies occur. Multiple vacancies may be filled from this announcement. The beginning and ending salaries may vary depending on location of position. Eligible applicants will be referred to management as requests to recruit are received. Referral lists will be issued as vacancies occur, and/or every two weeks.

 

Vacancies may be multiple appointment types and multiple schedules. Flexible/Intermittent employees serve in a continuing position on a scheduled or as-needed basis. Regular employees serve in a continuing position on a scheduled basis. The minimum workweek for a RPT employee is 20 hours. The guaranteed workweek for a RFT employee is 40 hours.

  

Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week. Hourly pay is $11.99 to $14.19.

 

Work schedule to be determined after hire. No TDY, shift work, or holidays.

DUTIES:

Responsible for the appearance, sanitation, supplies, and patient flow for one or more designated exam rooms. Verifies patient reason for visit and prepares supplies for veterinarian examination. Obtains patient history and records vital signs, to include blood pressure, temperature, and pulse into the veterinary treatment record. Obtains samples and completes diagnostic testing. May assist veterinarian during surgical procedures, to include preparing surgery packs, scalpel blades, and suture material, monitoring a patient using an anesthetic machine. May serve as scrubbed surgical assistant. Continuously informs medical staff of the changes in general condition of patient during surgical procedures. Prepares and administers vaccinations, oral and topical medications to patient. Assist the facility in obtaining local credentialing for surgical, anesthetic, dental, and diagnostic procedures. May provide training to lower level staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Possess 6 months of work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability in providing care to animals
Possess 6 months of work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability in positioning and restraining animals
Possess 6 months of work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability to perform general physical examinations
Possess 6 months of work experience demonstrating ability to perform routine diagnostic laboratory tests (e.g. fecal smears, flotations, urinalyses, blood counts, etc)
Possess 6 months of work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability to perform a variety of administrative and clerical functions


Conditions of Employment:

1. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

5. Saturday shifts may be required.

6. A physical examination is required after selection.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies:  Minimum Qualifications, Skill in Veterinary Processes, Physical Requirements, Verbal Communication and Written Communication.

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work.
