As a Clinical Psychologist, at Ft. Polk, LA you will:

  • Provides diagnostic and treatment services to a patient population such as those attempting suicide; suffering from substance abuse; victims of abuse (e.g., physical, sexual, emotional), and exhibiting various forms of extreme thought disorder (e.g., schizophrenia, autism, paranoia).
  • Screens and interviews patients and performs bio-psycho social evaluations, using extensive comprehensive knowledge of concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling.
  • Review statistical data to modify behavioral health program goals.
  • Counsel patients utilizing a variety of psychological treatment modalities.
  • Administers, scores, and interprets appropriate psychological tests.

 Degree: Successful completion of at least a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

 Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.  Specialized experience is defined as: conducting mental health assessments, determining mental health diagnoses, developing behavioral health treatment plans, providing psychological counseling, and conducting psychological testing This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

 Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

 Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license as a Psychologist from a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Ability to Provide Therapeutic Services
  • Skill in Psychological Assessment
  • Knowledge of Psychological Testing
  • Knowledge of Administrative Procedures
