US Army Veterinary Services operates as a subsidiary of Public Health Command. Their mission is to provide military veterinary services in support of United States Army Medical Command and Department of Defense missions. The civilian function of the Veterinary Services is a supplemental mission which exists to assist soldiers and their families in the field of animal health and care.

This is a Part-Time position with Great Lakes Naval Training Center, IL Veterinary Treatment Facility. The VTF is a rapidly expanding clinic that focuses on wellness care and minor sickcall. Salary based on actual number of hours worked.

Performs professional veterinary work that involves the maintenance of wellness in a population of privately owned animals. Executes duties in accordance with standardized initiatives and policies. May perform medical care and treatment or surgery. Maintains records in accordance with local and command policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possess a degree of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e. Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA). (MUST PROVIDE TRANSCRIPTS).

Possess a valid state license to practice veterinary medicine.


Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA). (MUST PROVIDE TRANSCRIPTS).

Conditions of Employment:

1. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

2. E-Verify: If you are selected for this position, the documentation that you present for purposes of completing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 will be verified through the DHS "E-Verify" system. Federal Law requires DHS to use the E-Verify system to verify the employment eligibility of all new hires, and obligates the new hire to take affirmative steps to resolve any discrepancies identified by the system as a condition of continued employment. The U.S. Department of Army is an E-Verify Participant.

3. All required background check of AR 215-3 must be successfully completed and maintained. Satisfactory completion of a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) that will be initiated prior to appointment to a NAF position.

4. Social Security Card and a Picture I.D. must be presented at time of appointment.   



Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies: Minimum Qualifications, Experience in Clinical Care, Experience in Veterinary Science, Experience in Animal Diagnostics, and Experience in Medical Documentation requirements.


Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work.
