The Visitor Services Specialist reports to the Visitor Services Office and the senior staff. The Visitor Services Specialist is the professional Library staff member who has direct, in-person contact with all levels of visitors, ensuring that the experiences of the visitors with the Library are appropriately arranged and conducted. The incumbent performs regularly scheduled public tours and private tours for special visitors and serves VIP, official, professional, special, and general visitors who come to the Library of Congress. At the senior level, the Visitor Services Specialist applies his/her knowledge of the mission, history, architecture, collections, programs, services, organization, and operations of the Library, the broad context in which the Library functions as the national library, and an extensive body of experience to the responsibilities of the position. The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area.
The position is Indefinite NTE 5 years.
The incumbent of this position will work a Part time Intermittent Special work schedule.
Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.
The Visitor Services Specialist coordinates daily operations ensuring that the Visitor Services programs run smoothly. The incumbent works is in direct contact with the public, Visitor Services volunteers, Library staff and special visitors, including Members of Congress and other dignitaries. The specialist conducts private and public tours of the Library that include the art and architecture of the Jefferson Building as well as the history and ongoing activities of the Library of Congress. Complements the dissemination of this information with special anecdotes and adapts the tours and tour routes to address the varied interests, requests, and cultural and educational level of the visitors. Serves as a liaison for the highest level of national and international VIP, official, and professional visitors to the Library, including royalty, government and business leaders, scholars, librarians, and others. Arranges these visits through the highest level of contacts with Library officials and officials and agencies outside the Library. Serves as the expert on program areas of the Visitor Services Office, such as official and professional visitors, volunteer programs, and tourist services. Assists the Visitor Services Officer by managing on a day-to-day basis the public service programs, including public tours, Congressional tours, the information/orientation desks, the Visitors' Theater, and volunteers.
