About the Agency
We have one vacant position that may be filled in Albany, OR; Morgantown, WV or Pittsburgh, PA.
This position is located in the Strategic Energy Analysis & Planning Division (SEAP), within the Director's Office of the National Energy Technology Laboratory. SEAP is responsible for providing forward-looking analysis of novel technology trends, economic and market developments, and assessments of environmental issues and industrial concerns. SEAP focuses on fossil energy, electricity and fuels markets, analyzing the entire energy value chain, from primary energy extraction through conversion to distribution and end-use. SEAP therefore deploys an interdisciplinary analytical staff composed of engineers, economists, and scientists. A successful candidate for this position will perform a variety of technical tasks in support of the NETL mission of developing technology to enhance energy security and resolve environmental issues involving the use of fossil energy.

As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will:
Adapt engineering and economic principles to life cycle analysis methodology.
Perform process and systems engineering analyses in support of product management activities, including systems modeling, process simulation and cost estimating.
Prepare reports, papers, and oral presentations that document and transfer results and interpretation of policy analyses, process/system studies and RD&D efforts.
Support product teams through technical, situational, and trend analysis.

In addition to the education requirements, one of the following is required: Successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or as least one year of professional experience in a field appropriate to the specialization for which you are applying, which was comparable in level of responsibility and difficulty to that of the GS-9 level in the Federal Service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

- Knowledge of physical science and engineering concepts, principles, and practices, involving fossil-fueled energy conversion processes.
- Knowledge of cost-estimating and cost-analysis methods, appropriate for consideration of fossil fuel conversion systems.
- Ability to organize data and other information from reference sources and system studies in order to present such information in technical reports.
- Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, technical and/or economic problems in a clear and concise manner.
