About the Agency

This Machinist position has an emphasis in manufacturing in the provision of nonprofessional machining support to research groups and metrology experts through the fabrication of complex mechanical parts, the operation of machining equipment and machine tools, and the selection of appropriate operations, processes, setups, materials, tools and equipment.

Work assignments will include providing support of manufacturing systems, manufacturing technologies, and machine tools used in the production of mechanical parts, instruments and measurement devices. In addition, the individual will provide support of fabrication activities associated with the machining of metal parts utilizing manual machine tools, including the machining of various material types in support of machine shop activities. 
The individual will participate as a creative member of the fabrication technology group under general guidance from the Technician supervisor and/or engineer, on job assignments, contributing to the fabrication of new metrology systems, devising improvements to instruments and subsystems, operating manual machines, abrasive waterjet machine, and manufacturing technical equipment, parts and assemblies from basic concepts to complex mechanical designs.
The individual will also be required to coordinate the fabrication of new mechanical parts and assemblies that necessitate manufacturing processes that extend beyond the assigned equipment and facility capabilities of the metal storeroom machining equipment. The individual will provide estimated times and required process plans for
fabricating mechanical part across various manufacturing equipment.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

We will review your resume and cover letter to determine if you meet the minimum qualification requirements for the position. Your responses to the job questionnaire will serve as the basis for your initial rating in one of three pre-defined categories "gold," "silver," and "bronze." The candidates in the highest category will be certified for referral to the selecting official.
