Duties

This position is supervisory and managerial in nature. The incumbent directs the daily activities of the fee collection program including an entrance station and two campgrounds.  The incumbent plans, schedules, and assigns work to subordinate staff and provide technical and policy direction, manages long term budget projections, and the annual operating budgets. Manages personnel actions, hires subordinate staff and volunteers, provides training, and evaluates performance.  Troubleshoots point of sale Touch Screen Elixr cash registers and Ventek automated fee machines.  Directs fee and permit accountability for the program and ensures compliance. Manages the park commercial use permitting. Uses the entrance station effectively to both monitor and control vehicle access during peak season.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required.  Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responisibilty of dealing with a large amount of money.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which result in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight.  Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations.  High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods.  Duities may be performed alone in isolated locations.

AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Bandelier National Monument is comprised of over 32,817 acres, including a designated wilderness area of 23,267 acres and an 800-acre detached archaeological section.  The Monument was created to preserve the numerous archaeological features of a late prehistoric period, which represents the transition of the Pueblo Indians from the prehistoric Ancestral Puebloan to modern traditions.  Annual visitation exceeds 200,000.  The Monument is located 45 miles from Santa Fe, 32 miles from Espanola, and 12 miles from Los Alamos.  Elevation ranges from 5,300 to 10, 199 feet with headquarters located at 6,000 feet.  For more information on Bandelier please see the park website: www.nps.gov/band.  Good medical facilities, schools and shopping are available in Los Alamos and White Rock.  Local cost of living is considered high.
