JOB SUMMARY:

About the Position:
This Interdisciplinary position is located at USA Public Health Command (USAPHC), Aberdeen Proving Ground, Edgewood Area, MD.

 

Public Health Command's mission is to promote health and prevent disease, injury, and disability of Soldiers and military retirees, their Families, and Department of the Army civilian employees; and assure effective execution of full spectrum veterinary service for Army and Department of Defense Veterinary missions.

As an Interdisciplinary, you will:

  • Determines the biological and toxicological effects of chemical compounds on vertebrate biological systems, emphasizing on mechanistic toxicology and in vitro methods.

  • Performs toxicity assessments.

  • Develops toxicological reviews of specific substances.

  • Advises on the development and interpretation of information and the solution of problems in area of specialization.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.  Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.  Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

 

To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.  Specialized experience is defined as work that involves conducting multidisciplinary research, studies and experiments including cellular and in vivo toxicological methods, providing biological and toxicological consultation services in a risk assessment framework to assess the biological and toxicological effects of environmental pollutants and hazardous materials. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service ([GS-09]).

     

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

 

  • Knowledge of Biological Concepts
  • Knowledge of Toxicology Concepts
  • Knowledge of Biochemical Process
  • Knowledge of Sub-Cellular process
  • Ability to Commuincate

 

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.

 

 

 


POSITIVE EDUCATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

0401 Series: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

 

0415 Series: Degree in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.
