As the Librarian, you will:

  • Provide professional library services to meet the needs of all Residents and employees, i.e., general reading, viewing videotaped/DVD movies or instructional videos, and/or listening to music, and literature or instructional material on audio cassettes.
  • Provide classes and programs such as reading publications to visually impaired residents, conducting poetry and/or play events, hosting a book club, genealogy groups, computer/IPAD classes and monthly meetings for movies.  Weekly discussions (storytelling and current events) are held in the Healthcare areas.
  • Recommend priorities for use of funds for all books and subscriptions. Assists with preparation of annual budget for expenditures on items such as books, periodicals, journals, supplies and library equipment.
  • Act as the Liaison with outside volunteers and agencies who provide services (computer classes, storytelling program, inter library loan program), genealogy, etc. to Residents.
  • As part of the Resident Services team, staff will be required to assist in the “Health Check” process to ensure the Health and well being of the AFRH residents.

Positive Education Requirement: 

  1. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree; OR
  2. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.


Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes
  • Cataloging, performing acquisitions, and circulation of materials, AND
  • Preparing and coordinating special library exhibits and events.  OR

Education:  Master's in library science or equivalent degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B. or J.D., related to the position.

If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three categories, Outstanding, Excellent, and Qualified, depending on your experience and education related to this position. Preference-eligibles will be listed at the top of their assigned category and considered before non-preference-eligibles in that category. Qualified preference-eligibles with a compensable service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest category.
3.
