The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal, and Urban operated facilities and programs.

Appointment may be Permanent, Temporary, Excepted Temporary, Excepted Time-Limited, or TERM with tour of duty of Full-Time, Part-Time, or Intermittent. The Agency has the option of extending Time-Limited or TERM appointments for up to a maximum of four (4) years. Temporary positions not-to-exceed (NTE) 12 months or less are subject to termination at any time. The Agency has the option of extending Temporary position appointments up to a maximum of two (2) years. Positions filled by PHS Commissioned Officers will be Permanent Full-Time only.
This position serves as a Registered Nurse in the Ambulatory Care/Emergency Room Units located at the Acomita-Canoncito-Laguna Service Unit, Acomita, New Mexico. The position reports to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse.
- Assess all patients for emergency care and triage patients.
- Initiate treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on standing orders.
- Administer therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician.
- Observe, assess, and stabilize critically ill pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Record observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, and other relevant data to the patient's care.
- Interpret data obtained from observation, examination, and monitoring.
- Operate and monitor specialized equipment.
