About the Position:
This position is located in the Central Material Service with the Department of Anesthesia and Operative Services (DOAOS) at Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (Tacoma), Washington.

This is a developmental position and may be filled at the GS-03, 04, or 05 grade levels with non-competitive promotion potential to the full performance grade (GS-05). Medical Supply (Sterile Processing) Aids hired at the GS-03 grade level will receive progressively more responsible duties in order to perform the full range of duties to process, decontaminate, sterilize, prepare and distribute medical supplies and equipment used in all areas of the hospital. Use manual and mechanical cleaning methods to decontaminate and sterilize surgical instrumentation and equipment, disassembling and reassembling as required. Sort items according to cleaning procedure required. Demonstrate competence in principles of sterilization and infectious disease transmission, infection control; and all aspects of steam and sterrad sterilization processes. Package a variety of supply items such as gauze, needles and scissors using established packaging procedures. Keeps record, labels each item sterilized, and places in protective cover. Utilize computer based tracking system.

Experience Requirement for the GS-03 Grade Level:
To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least six months of general experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. General experience is defined as: experience which has equipped me with the practical knowledge sufficient to understand the ways diseases and infections are transmitted and the importance of clean and sterile supplies to patient care.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:
• Knowledge of Sterilization Process.
• Skill in Medical Supply Procedures.
• Ability to Perform Administrative Procedures.

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

Condition of Employment:
• This position requires a pre-employment physical examination to ascertain your fitness for the position. Applicants must be able to lift up to 45 pounds or more and have the ability to push/pull racks containing instruments in excess of 45 pounds.
