About the Agency

The applicants selected will be offered a position in the FDIC Internship Program.  After successful completion of the program requirements and based on the FDIC's needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term position as a Financial Institution Specialist based upon an evaluation of performance and completion of various skills assessments.  However, service in the Financial Institution Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.
The range of pay shown includes base pay plus supplemental locality adjustments.  The locality rates for these duty locations range from a low of 5.22% to a high of 33%.  Pay will vary by grade level and the locality rate for the geographic location where the position is located.  For more on FDIC locality rates, click here.

Most interns will work directly on teams with experienced FDIC employees to evaluate bank operations, business planning, risk management strategies, and consumer protection practices during a period in which banks are still recovering from the stress of the recent financial crisis.  These teams are responsible for assessing financial institutions to determine whether they are following safe and sound banking practices, maintaining effective controls and procedures, managing their institutions effectively, and complying with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to consumer protection, privacy, community reinvestment, and fair lending.
