This position is located in the Naval History and Heritage Command Curator Branch at the Washington Navy Yard, DC. The Curator Branch is responsible for the management of Navy properties of historical and inspirational value, including artifacts, shipboard equipment, ordnance, uniforms and ephemera.

Manages Department of the Navy’s collection management database, Department of Navy Heritage Asset Management System (DONHAMS) thereby maintaining an accurate inventory of the Naval History and Heritage Command Headquarters Artifact Collection and ensuring the creation and maintenance of required documentation. 

Acts as the representative for the Program Manager, Curator Branch, NHHC enterprise museum system and other interested parties in discussions with NHHC IT Branch, contracting, software vendors, and others in all matters concerning Department of Navy Heritage Asset Management System.

Responsible for the Curator Branch loan program.  Works with the Loan Curator to ensure all loans are current and all artifact movement is properly documented.

Responsible for compiling metrics on all aspects of the Headquarters Artifact Collection including, but not limited to, artifact acquisitions, processing, loans, and losses for use in official reports and data calls

Supervises Curator Branch Registrar Section staff assigning, reviewing and evaluating the work of the staff. Provides oversight and technical guidance on daily assignments as needed.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

A. I have a degree in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field.

B. I have a combination of education and experience- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

C. I have four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in A above. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following criteria will be used to ensure applicants meet basic requirements.

Select the one statement that best describes the experience that you possess that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of an Museum Curator at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band.

A. I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level performing the following duties: track artifact inventory and loans; store, handle and ship historical artifacts; use museum collections management practices, policies and procedures to ensure the program is conducted legally.

 B. I have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree or have completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields closely related to the position.

C. I have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have more than two years but less than three years of graduate education as described in B. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond two years by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)

A. I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level performing the following duties: managing the loan of historical materials; use museum collection management practices which include acquisition, evaluation, cataloging and more to obtain artifacts for the command; input data using computerized collections data management systems, methods and procedures for artifact management; use knowledge of American and U.S. Naval history to create exhibits and gather materials.

B. My experience is not reflected in the above statement.

REQUIREMENTS:
