The Veteran Affairs New Jersey Healthcare System (VANJHCS) in East Orange, New Jersey is seeking a full-time attending staff physician to serve in the Emergency Medicine Service. The Emergency Medicine physician is responsible for providing quality care to patients presenting to the East Orange VA Medical Center Emergency Department during shifts which include nights, weekends and holidays.

Board certification or board eligibility in emergency medicine is strongly preferred. It is also preferred that candidates are currently ACLS/BCLS certified. Additional preferred experience includes working in an Emergency Department, emergency medicine research and publications, and experience in an academic facility. The candidate must have proven clinical excellence, and the ability to promote staff excellence. The Emergency Physician should have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, a record of promoting customer satisfaction, and working cooperatively with staff to provide prompt and expert care to emergency patients and their families.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: See VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Chapter 2, paragraph 7, and VA Handbook 5019, Occupational Health Services. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.

WORK SCHEDULE: Rotating tour with nights, holidays, and weekends.

    Basic Requirements: 
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medicine is strongly preferred.
  • Current ACLS/BCLS certification
  • Emergency Medicine research and publications
  • Experience in an academic facility
