Reclamation is seeking an Engineering Equipment Operator looking for an opportunity to capitalize on his/her expertise. You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.

Would you enjoy operating one or more types of construction and maintenance equipment, e.g. crawler type tractors, graders, scrapers, hydraulic excavator, backhoe, and other gasoline and diesel-powered equipment to excavate channels, build or repair levees, clean and repair water structures, and grade and level roads, etc?

You may also operate a forklift and perform other duties that do not involve operating equipment, e.g., unloading supplies, cleaning shop and yard area, building access gates, fabricating equipment, assisting mechanic in repairing equipment, etc. for the Socorro Field Division.

Operates several different types of heavy equipment such as dozers, hydraulic excavators, front-end graders, scrapers, articulated dump trucks, and articulated water wagons. Operates equipment to excavate channels, drains, and borrow pits; load dump trucks; build or repair levees, groins, and ramps; grade and level service roads; and clean and repair water control structures for wetland rehabilitation projects. The operator works in various types of terrain and soil conditions and uses different controls and attachments.

The incumbent will also perform work that does not involve operating equipment, such as unloading supplies, cleaning shop and yard area, building and repairing access gates and fences, fabricating equipment and assisting the mechanic in equipment repair.

Typical work attire is jeans - steel toe/safety shoes are required to be worn at all times, and hardhat and other safety/protective clothing including gloves, safety glasses, and respiratory protection (dust masks).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:
-If your current Commercial Driver License (CDL) and Driver License are NOT issued by New Mexico (N.M.) you will be required to obtain and maintain (within 30 days) a N.M. CDL and State Driver license.
- After you enter on duty (EOD) you will be required to obtain Hazardous Materials and Tanker Endorsement on Class A CDL for the state of N.M. Within 45 days of EOD you must provide documentation showing endorsement exams have been passed and associated security background check has been submitted.
- Human Resources will obtain written permission from candidate to request drug/alcohol test results from previous employers. You will be subject to periodic drug/alcohol testing while in this position (testing at government expense).
- Selectee is subject to pre-employment physical and to periodic full physical.
- Required to obtain Hepatitis A and B shots (at government expense).
- Must be available to work after hours and on weekends for callbacks and emergencies. Regular shift is 4 x 10 hour days, Monday-Thursday.
- Position requires frequent day and overnight travel (Monday-Thursday) for several months of the year.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Category rating and selection procedures will be used for evaluating this position. If you meet the basic qualification requirements, your on-line responses to the vacancy assessment questionnaire will be used to determine the quality and extent of your experience, education, training, etc., for placement in one of the following categories: 1) Best Qualified, 2) Well Qualified and 3) Qualified. Qualified candidates will be assigned a numerical score on a scale of 70-100 and Veterans with preference will be placed at the top of their respective category. The assessment questionnaire will take you approximately 30 minutes to complete. Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.
