Reclamation is seeking a skilled and experienced Operator, General (Light Duty), looking for an opportunity to capitalize on his/her expertise. You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment. Would you enjoy operating gas, diesel or electrically powered vehicles such as dozers, scrapers, loaders and excavators? You would also service the equipment, perform minor repairs, use power tools and equipment, and apply herbicides/pesticides for the Elephant Butte Field Division.

Travel, transportation and relocation expenses will not be paid by our agency. Any expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the individual selected.

DUTIES:

Operates dozers, tractors, scrapers, loaders and excavators on level, stable grades;
Operates industrial (wheel) type tractors with attachments such as rotary and flair mowers, loaders, spray equipment etc;
Operates truck/trailer combinations, backhoe/loader, boat, wrecker, forklift, crane, and other equipment;
Uses power hand tools including drills, chain saws and power saws;
Services equipment, makes minor adjustments and completes reports on equipment operated;
Operates hand guided equipment such as mowers, sprayers, weed cutters, and water pumps;
Mixes and places concrete;
Performs simple carpentry tasks such as cutting lumber, nailing boards and building forms;
Removes debris and weeds;
Applies herbicide, pesticide, and fertilizer;
Performs other duties as assigned, such as assisting with rigging.

Physical requirements: Must be able to perform work at elevated levels, such as from ladders, scaffolds and mobile platforms up to heights of approximately 80 feet; work in close quarters requiring stooping, bending, or kneeling positions for moderate time periods. Work also requires occasional standing and climbing in cramped and awkward positions.

Must be able to wear a respirator during dusty work and while applying pesticides and/or herbicides.

Must be able to pull or push up to approximate 100 lbs. Continually handles objects weighing up to 50 lbs and occasionally must lift up to 100 lbs. Requires heavy physical exertion to operate controls, with jolting, tilting, and jerking motions. Some work will be out of doors in all kinds of weather; also required to work in concrete and steel pipe tunnels.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES YOU TO CURRENTLY POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID, COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE, CLASS A, WITH NO AIR BRAKE RESTRICTIONS.

You will be subject to a pre-employment physical, and periodic full physical that includes a pulmonary function test. You will be subject to drug/alcohol testing. 

You will be required to obtain (within 6 months) and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver License.

You will be required to obtain (within 6 months) and maintain a herbicide applicator's license/certificate.


You must meet all qualification requirements (including any selective factors) by the closing date of this announcement.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Category rating and selection procedures will be used for evaluating this position. If you meet the basic qualification requirements, your on-line responses to the vacancy assessment questionnaire will be used to determine the quality and extent of your experience, education, training, etc., for placement in one of the following categories: 1) Best Qualified, 2) Well Qualified and 3) Qualified. Qualified candidates will be assigned a numerical score on a scale of 70-100 and Veterans with preference will be placed at the top of their respective category. The assessment questionnaire will take you approximately 30 minutes to complete.
