Selective Placement Factors
Applicants must posses the following Selective Placement Factors to be considered minimally qualified for this position:
1) Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for geospatial analysis and cartography using both raster and vector data structures.
2) Knowledge of analytical techniques and statistical tests used in social science or economic research, including calculations of means, medians, variance, and correlation measures.
In addition to the Selective Placement Factors and IT competencies listed above, applicants must also possess one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (or equivalent) in the normal line of progression for this occupation or qualifying education as stated below.
GS-09: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience applying the principles and practice of computer-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis and computer-assisted cartography to the design of digital map products.
Masters degree (or equivalent graduate degree) or 2 full years of graduate education (leading to a masters degree or equivalent graduate degree) in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks may be used to meet experience requirements.
Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience applying the principles and practice of computer-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis and computer-assisted cartography to the design of digital map products, and experience identifying and implementing new statistical, geospatial and representational methods to enhance the dissemination of cartographic information.
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of graduate education (leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree) in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks may be used to meet experience requirements.
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education and experience may be used to meet experience requirements at the GS-9/11 levels.
