The Economic Research Service (ERS) conducts broad programs of economic and other social science research and analysis relating to agriculture, food, natural resources and rural America for use by public and private decision makers. ERS' clients are the executive and legislative branches; environmental, consumer and public interest groups, including farm and industry groups; and the general public.
The Information Services Division (ISD) provides technical leadership, guidance, training, coordination, and other assistance in computing, editing, disseminating information, and operations in support of the economic research and analysis mission of ERS.
This position is located in the Research Support Branch (RSB). The Research Support Branch is responsible for supporting the Agency research program by providing technical expertise and services in statistical, econometric, and geospatial fields. Key branch specialties include data management, geospatial analysis, data visualization, and software application development.

The incumbent servers as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Programmer/Analyst and under the supervision of the branch chief is responsible for carrying out complex GIS programming, spatial analysis, modeling, mapping and data development activities in support of research, staff analyses, and web applications.
The major duties of this position include consulting in the implementation and application of GIS techniques to the study of natural resources, food policy and marketing, farm programs and structure, and conservation programs.
