The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal, and Urban operated facilities and programs.

COMPETITION FOR SECURITY GUARD POSITIONS IS RESTRICTED BY LAW TO PERSONS ENTITLED TO VETERANS PREFERENCE AS LONG AS SUCH APPLICANTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR APPOINTMENT.
One (1) permanent full-time Security Guard in the Security Department located at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona. Incumbent performs protective services guarding Federally owned or leased buildings and property. Protects Government equipment and controls access to the facilities.

To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the position for which you are applying. - Six months of general experience
which includes administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work
that involved following written procedures, rules or regulations in contacts
with co-workers, supervisor, or members of the public to provide a service,
respond to inquiries, or obtain information.
Six months of specialized experience
such as Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization
that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft,
damage, accident, or trespass, or maintaining order and protecting life. Such
experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques.
Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard
that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent
basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a
psychiatric nursing assistant or similar position safeguarding patients is

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
