DoDEA employs more than 12,500 individuals responsible for the education of more than 86,000 students in schools located in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam and Puerto Rico.  DoDEA is responsible for the oversight of two distinct educational systems, the Department of Defense Dependents' Schools (DoDDS), DoDEA's overseas schools and the DoD Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS), DoDEA's domestic school system.  DoDEA is responsible for providing a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments. 
DoDEA is currently seeking an Instructional Systems Specialist (Math) to work in the DoDEA Education Directorate/Science and Math Branch located in Alexandria, VA

As a TAG:Position Title you will be responsible for the following duties:

•Assesses the system wide effectiveness in the defined teaching area(s) by monitoring the implementation of curriculum/performance standards.
•Develops goals and standards in the specified teaching area(s), including those that support the DoDEA Community Strategic Plan.
•Integrates data from system wide testing programs, accreditation reports and the incumbent’s supervisory field observations into comprehensive needs statements for the assigned area of responsibility as a basis for the development of system wide action plans to implement curriculum and program standards.
•In the subject matter area(s), directs the systematic review of curriculum/performance/program standards, and methodology for the program area.
•Identifies training needs in the discipline area(s) of responsibility.
•Trains curriculum liaisons, specialists and other leaders in methods for implementing and maintaining effective instruction and assessment both in the existing curriculum and in initiatives for curriculum improvement.
•Manage budgets and contracts.
•Ability to communicate virtually with a geographically disbursed workforce.

Degree: that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours appropriate to the work of the position to be filled. The course work must have included study in at least four of the following five areas:
1.Learning theory, psychology of learning, educational psychology: Study of learning theories as they relate to the systematic design, development, and validation of instructional material.
2.Instructional design practices: Study of the principles and techniques used in designing training programs, developing design strategy and models, and applying design methods to the improvement of instructional effectiveness.
3.Educational evaluation: Study of the techniques for evaluating the effectiveness of instructional/educational programs, including developing written and performance tests and survey instruments, and determining reliability and validity of evaluation instruments.
4.Instructional product development: Study of the techniques appropriate for developing training materials, including identifying learner characteristics, specifying objectives, applying training strategy, validating training materials, and evaluating training.
5.Computers in education and training: Study of the application of computers in education and training, including selecting appropriate computer software.

You must have one year Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private/military sector) giving the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position.

-Demonstrated strong mastery in pedagogical and content knowledge in mathematics to include experience related to the design, implementation, and assessment of effective PK-5 curricula in math.

-Knowledge with substantial background of practical experience with the application of PK-5 mathematics programs in public schools in statewide and/or overseas environment.

-Extensive knowledge and experience in staff development, staff development design, facilitation and the use of job embedded models and other strategies.

-Coordinates the development of math education curriculum/performance standards.
-Uses technology and information systems to support and monitor math programs and services.
-Creates professional development materials for educational staff, to include administration and curriculum coordinators.
-Trains curriculum liaisons in methods for implementing and maintaining effective instruction and assessment.
-Reports on the status of program implementation, monitoring, review, and evaluation to various groups within and external to an agency.
-Provides expert advice and consultation to various groups regarding math education.
