This position is located at the Naval Sea Logistics Center (NSLC) in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, York, ME.  The Naval Sea Logistics Center (NSLC) is a multi-site echelon-five activity of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center and the Navy’s Center of Excellence for Logistics with a unique mission that is complex and involves broad responsibility for providing cost effective life-cycle logistics support products and information technology (IT) solutions that enable customers to meet operational requirements.  Customer base includes the Department of the Navy (DON), Joint Services, Department of Defense (DOD) as well as Federal and Civil Agencies. 

This is a recent graduate appointment located at Naval Sea Logistics Center (NSLC).

The incumbent will perform entry-level IT programming and application support assignments with progressively more challenging assignments and responsibilities leading to a recognized technical or subject matter expert in application software design, development, and maintenance.

Recent Graduates selected for this position will serve in a 1 year developmental program.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

FOR THE GS-05 POSITION: Successful completion of a  bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, a bachelor's degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

 

FOR THE GS-07 POSITION: Your resume must demonstrate - One full year of experience equivalent to the next lower level (GS-05) applying basic Information Technology (IT) concepts, methods and practices to support the planning, analysis, design, software development, testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, integration, maintenance or management of IT systems. Your experience in the information technology field must have equipped you with skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

 

Education may be substituted for GS-07 specialized experience as follows:

 

Successful completion of one full year of graduate education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

OR


Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in computer science or related curriculum as described above with superior academic achievement.

ELIGIBILITY:

Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocation or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institute.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

·       Orientation program

·       Mentorship throughout the Program.

·       Individual Development Plan to assist with career planning, professional development, and training activities.

·       At least 40 hours of formal, interactive training each year of the Program.

·       Positions may offer opportunity for career advancement.

 

AFTER PROGRAM COMPLETION:

Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances a term appointment lasting 1-4 years).

 

To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must:

·       Be a US Citizen.

·       Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.

·       Demonstrated successful job performance.

·       Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.

 


QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

1) A high school whose curriculum has been  approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such a body or a State; and

2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:

(i) A technical or vocational school;

(ii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;

(iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or

(iv) A home-school curriculum

 

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
