As the Dietitian/Nutritionist, in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), Office of Nutritional Labeling and Dietary Supplements (OLDS), Infant Formula and Medical Foods Staff (IF/MF Staff) you will serve as a senior science reviewer and policy developer for regulatory activities relating to infant formulas and medical foods.This vacancy is also being announced concurrently with vacancy announcement HHS-FDA-CFSAN-MP-14-1007609 under merit promotion procedures.  Please review that announcement to see if you are eligible for consideration under merit promotion procedures.  NOTE:  Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.

  • Serve as the scientific and technical expert reviewer of regulatory and public health issues associated with infant formula and medical foods;
  • Identify and anticipate development that will have a direct impact on the regulatory programs relative to infant formulas and medical foods;
  • Evaluate formula composition, scientific rationale, and data submitted in support of new and reformulated infant formulas;
  • Develop and recommend regulatory positions, policies, or initiatives relative to nutrition labeling;
  • Provide reviews of food product labeling for adherence to regulations involving nutrient composition information to determine adequacy and accuracy of manufacturer's claims.

Basic Qualification Requirements for Dietitian/Nutritionist, GS-0630:

Have a degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science.

 

In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirements for Dietitian/Nutritionist, GS-0630-12/13 described above, you must also meet the following:

 

GS-12

Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, assisting in the drafting of documents to amend or establish new food standards or food labeling regulations; responding to inquiries regarding regulatory issues related to food labeling and food standards; assisting in researching scientific-regulatory issues.

GS-13

Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, advising on regulations and guidance (e.g. Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act) for infant formula and medical foods; evaluating nutrition ingredient composition and requirements of infant formulas and medical foods; etc.

This position requires that specific course(s) be demonstrated to meet the basic education requirement.  Your transcript(s) must clearly demonstrate the course(s) listed in the qualification requirement section.  If the transcript(s) does not clearly demonstrate this you must submit a copy of the course description and/or other documentation demonstrating that the courses are equivalent.

Failure to provide any of the above will result in an ineligible rating.

1.
