About the Agency

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest. 

INTRODUCTION:  This technician position work involves the repair, adjustment and maintenance of self propelled transportation and other mobile equipment (except aircraft).  This position is loacted in the Joint Forces Headquarters - State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility.  The purpose of this position is to serve as an inspector of surface maintenance vehicles and equipment to ensure that physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards and specifications.  Duties involve complex inspection work, requiring a wide variety of inspection processes and techniques, at remote worksites or field installations where a supervisor is not readily available.  In these situations, work is performed very independently and decisions require a wide range of subjective judjments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: (1) Inspects a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles such as attack tanks, large cranes, tank retrievers, fire trucks, bridge transporters, armored vehicle launched bridges, bulldozers, road graders, crawler tractors, power shovels, self propelled earth compacting equipment, self propelled artillery, etc. (2) Inspects complex, interrelated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems, equipment and their components while in operation or in a standby condition. (3) Inspects equipment to determine repairs needed. (4) Inspects the full range of equipment as described above at remote worksites in support of field organizations, field units during field exercise training periods, or before major pieces of equipment are sent for repair to a supporting maintenance facility. (5) Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 

Must have 18 months experience, diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the ling of work.

Meeting the months of experience requirement will not by itself be accepted as proof of qualification.  Quality, type, and scope of experience or education must be demonstrated to show that applicant is fully qualified to perform duties at the grade level announced.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Resume must reflect applicable experience.

1. Knowledge of wheel, Power Generation and Track vehicle system and sub system troubleshooting using the Maintenance Support Device (MSD).

2. Knowledge of basic electrical, hydraulic and mechanical principles.
3. Knowledge and skill in the maintenance and repair of Heating and Air Conditioning applications on military Wheel and Track vehicles including their Sub systems and associated embedded diagnostics.

4. Ability to inspect power train components before during and after rebuilds using appropriate technical manuals and schematics.
