The Mental Health  Service Line at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center invites qualified applicants to apply for  the position of a Board Certified/Board Eligible Psychiatrist to provide outpatient care to veterans at Greenville (CBOC) in  NC.  We are seeking psychiatrists with training and expertise in psychiatric care relevant to the care of the Veterans patients, as well as background and interest consistent with East Carolina University faculty appointment.

 

EDUCATION DEBT REDUCTION PROGRAM: Selectee for this position will be eligible to apply for an award up to the maximum limitation under the provisions of the Education Debt Reduction Program, if funds are available. Incumbent must be skilled in general outpatient psychiatry, including diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.  He/she should be competent in the management of individuals with a broad range of clinical problems, including post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorders, and mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders.  The incumbent will serve as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary team in managing an outpatient panel. The position may include administrative responsibilities, teaching and supervising students and residents.  A potential Psychiatry faculty position for Greenville CBOC at East Carolina University ( ECU)  which is located nearby, may be available, depending on the individual’s credentials.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted licensure to practice medicine in a state, Territory, or commonwealth of the US, or in the District of Columbia.

 

English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 4105(c), 4114(f), and 5010.

 

Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. The psychiatrist must also have satisfactorily completed a residency in psychiatry at an ACGME-accredited institution.

 

Board Certification: The physician must be board certified in General Psychiatry, or, if within 2 years of graduation from psychiatry residency, be board-eligible. If not yet board certified, the applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete board certification within two years of hiring.

Citizen of the United States.  Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates.

(3)  Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
