The purpose of the Pathways Intern Program is a work experience that provides an opportunity for college students to pursue work that is relevant and beneficial to their academic studies. Work assignments are of limited scope and complexity, designed to assist the trainee in developing a basic understanding of engineering practices and procedures and to develop familiarity with simple test equipment. Trainees provide assistance to higher level personnel performing very routine tasks as applying standard formulae, preparing tables and graphs, taking test readings, replacing components, and/or wiring circuits. Assignments are carried out in accordance with specific instructions and direction. Trainees become familiar with the operation, design characteristics, maintenance procedures and standard use of equipment.
The program is an excellent opportunity for college undergraduate students to get an interesting, real-world experience in the field of engineering while contributing to the defense of our nation.
The Dahlgren Division is the U.S. Navys principal research, development, and test evaluation laboratory for surface ship combat systems, ordnance, mines, and strategic support. We are located on the Northern Neck of Virginia, approximately 30 miles east of Fredericksburg, VA.
