You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience defined as: developing methods and tools to analyze the potential causes of biological degradation to the nations waters; providing assistance in developing methods for integrating, deriving, and synthesizing cause and effect relationships in casual and risk assessments; OR providing technical expertise in the area of ecological or biological risk assessments.
Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Skill to apply the latest developments in assessment science, ecology, or other relevant fields to extend and modify current approaches; 2) Ability to provide technical expertise to develop innovative methods for synthesizing for casual and risk assessments; 3) Ability to exercise independent, technical responsibility for project studies of advanced scope and complexity; 4) Ability to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary teams and committees; 5) Skill in exchanging information, defending proposed approaches, or negotiating the settlement of differences; 6) Ability to exercise judgement in conceiving projects and determining areas for investigation; 7) Ability to conduct analyses and interpret data; 8) Ability to plan multi-year research and budget efforts.
Biologist: You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed
Ecologist: You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.

If you are selected, you must complete a one year probationary period.
This position is designated as Low Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.
If you are selected, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Form prior to your first day of employment and annually thereafter.

You are being evaluated under the category rating method which means, if you are determined to be qualified, you will be placed into the Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified Category.
We will compare your resume and supporting documentation to your responses on the assessment questionnaire. If you rate yourself higher than is supported by your application materials, your responses may be adjusted and/or you may be excluded from consideration for this job. We will evaluate your qualifications and eligibility and notify you if you meet minimum qualification requirements.
