Duty Location: You will serve as Field Security Service (FSS), Office of Information Security (OIS), Office of Information and Technology (OI&T)– Bay Pines, FL

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-12. At the GS-11 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-12. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.

You will conduct systems security evaluations, audits and reviews. You will develop Automated Information Systems (AIS) security contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures. You will control, review and record the station's information security program by performing internal control and security investigations and reviews and documents the results and provide reports as required. You will investigate and report all information security incidents and provide updates until closed. You will make recommendations to management for corrective action to ensure the integrity of Information Technology systems and employees. You will perform all duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full-Time Employment: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday - Friday

For GS-11:

Possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of an Information Technology Specialist (Information Security) at the GS-11 grade level. This experience must have been equivalent to GS-9 grade level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: possessing of Information Technology security principles, methods, security products and services sufficient to evaluating and recommending the acquisition, implementation and dissemination of security tools, policies, procedures and practices to protect Automated Information System, network and data; understanding of security certification and accreditation requirements, systems testing and evaluation and performance management methods sufficient to plan and conduct security accreditation reviews for installed systems and/or networks; and recommending new or revised security measures and countermeasures based on accreditation review results; possessing of testing and assessment methods, network operations and life cycle management principles in order to evaluating new security authentication technologies such as public key infrastructure certificates etc. NOTE: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.  Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.  Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR

Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field (i.e., computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks). NOTE: A transcript or course listing must be submitted if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. Applications submitted without this information will not be considered. For GS-12:

For GS-11/12:

Having Information Technology related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

  1. Knowledge of Information Technology concepts, standards and methods.
  2. Ability to lead and provide guidance and leadership to other professional and Information Technology staff in the conduct of complex projects and to develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and clients.
  3. Ability to provide expert advice, guidance and recommendations on critical security issues.
  4. Knowledge of current Information Technology security practices, threats, trends and technologies.
  5. Ability to communicate orally or in writing with a staff at all levels within the organization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is primarily sedentary in nature. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
