Incumbent serves as the Chief of the Spanish Service within the Latin America Division of the Voice of America.

INTRODUCTION TO AGENCY

The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency, is an exciting, multi cultural organization that encompasses all U.S. civilian international broadcasting. The BBG is comprised of the Voice of America, which delivers high quality, multimedia programming in 44 languages to audiences worldwide; the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti); the International Broadcasting Bureau, which provides transmission, administrative, and other support service; and three grantee organizations - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty; the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa), and Radio Free Asia. Our staff of dedicated professionals serves as an example of a free and independent media, reaching a worldwide audience with news, information, and relevant discussions.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

 

·    Manages and supervises the work of staff and contractors

·    Ensures the Service staff produces high quality radio, television, online and mobile content, including news reports, analysis, interviews and other interactive discussions

·    Monitors radio, television, online, mobile and social media output got style and balance

·    Recruits and select staff for the Service

·    Provide content to affiliate stations in Latin America

·    Implements policies and procedures, provide advice, counsel and instruction to employees

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) or equivalent which is directly related to this line of work AND bilingual in both English and Spanish languages, in order to read, write, report and interview in these languages.

 

Specialized Experience: Examples of specialized experience are experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of such experience includes: Expert knowledge (ability based on experience, occupation or research) in the Latin America media market, US politics/US news, Latin America and international news and managing, supervising, or leading a staff; providing editorial direction for an international news organization; prepares and provides reports, such as coverage reports and annual program review notes. Supervise journalist that covers international and domestic news stories preferably for a Latin America audience; journalism and journalistic standards in television, radio AND Internet; Online and social media experience as they relate to a Spanish speaking audience.


 

Suitability Determination: If selected, you will be subject to a security investigation to establish your suitability for federal employment. The security investigation will include, among other aspects, a review of your credit and legal history.

This position may require you to serve a 1-year supervisory  period
